ONDECK ANTIGUA SUCCESS WITH UK’S MARITIME & COASTGUARD AGENCY Friday 12th December 2014
This week Ondeck successfully retained its accreditation for the STCW10 Basic Safety Training and received approval for two new courses – PSA (Security Awareness) and PDSD (Security for those with Designated Duties).
The MCA inspector spent three days with the Ondeck team inspecting processes, procedures, quality systems , lecturers, and all the classroom, sea survival and fire training facilities and expressed a high level of satisfaction with the set up and particularly the team and lecturers. Ondeck is one of only two training centres in the Caribbean approved directly by the MCA – the second centre is in Trinidad.
The STCW10 course is essential for anyone working on larger commercial vessels from cargo to cruise lines to superyachts and is a very significant offering that is only available in a small number of Caribbean locations. The new security courses are already proving very popular with visiting yachts.
Peter Anthony, Director at Ondeck, commented –
“We are absolutely delighted to receive this re-approval and the new course sign off. It is a key step in our plan to develop our professional maritime training portfolio here in Antigua and Barbuda. We already have plans for further inspections of new courses next year which we will announce soon.
Huge credit goes to the administrative team of Rhonda, Christopher and Jade Hartley and the lecturing team of Logan Knight, Kevin Brooks, Jonathan Cornelius, Clare Cupples and the officers of the Antigua and Barbuda Fire Department.”
