CARNIVAL 2013 KICKS OFF WITH PARADE AND CHILDREN’S CARNIVAL Tuesday 30th July 2013
Day two of Carnival 2013 saw the announcement of the LIME Prince and Princess winners who were judged as part of Children’s Carnival yesterday. Kjoa Liverpool and Tajh Aska were judged the winners for the first competition of the day.
Liverpool’s Lady Amethyst purple costume by Xclamation Mas’ Troupe won her Princess of the Band and Aska of Rockers Mas’ Troupe with his Sweet Pan Music costume walked away as Prince of the Band.
Tifani Martin from Revellers Mas’ Troupe who displayed Yellow Fever placed first runner-up followed by Charity Henry in the second runner-up position with her Coral Reef costume from Rockers Mas Troupe. Devon Samuel Jr of Arising Mas Troupe placed first runner-up in the Prince of the Band section with his costume entitled Sailing Boat, followed by second runner-up Darren Henry in Full Moon by Silk Dust Mas Troupe.
Due to inclement weather, the parade started an hour and 20 minutes late but that did stop the revellers from hitting the streets. St John’s came alive with the colours, sounds and revellery signalling the resilience of a people supportive of their culture.
The day culminated with young calypsonians hitting the stage. In the age 13-18 category, Ashante, Double J, Dramatic M&M, K-Kay, Mona Lisa, Princess Arian, Singing Daisy and 2012 Monarch Lady Bop defending her crown.
Among those vying for the crown in the five to 12 were Baby-Eve, Lady Clair, Singing Black Kayla, Singing Pookie, Superman, Young Contender and the 2012 Monarch Singing Shyla. See who the winners were here.
The opening parade on Saturday kicked off at about 2 pm.
