PUBLIC LAUNCH SHELVED Tuesday 29th May 2012
The Carnival Development Committee (CDC) is confirming that there will be no public launch of carnival this year. Since the media launch of the summer festival earlier this month, patrons have been asking whether the traditional public launch will take place.
CDC Chairman Kayode O’Marde says financial constraints mean there will be no public launch of carnival. The launching of carnival in previous years has been a grand and free event with live band performances.
However, Minister responsible for Carnival Eleston Adams says while he understands the financial constraints of the CDC, patrons have grown used to a public launch.
The cash-strapped CDC has been struggling to clear a $300,000 debt for last year’s carnival, and has implemented several measures to reduce expenses for this year’s activity.
