JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT

AN OPPORTUNITY TO PLAN, ORGANIZE & EXECUTE VARIOUS PROJECTS

The Junior Achievement of Antigua & Barbuda is an affiliate of Junior Achievement Worldwide, which was founded in 1919 in Springfield, Massachusetts, by Horace Moses, then president of Strathmore Paper Company.

Junior Achievement of Antigua & Barbuda was founded upon the direct initiative of the ROTARY club, in 1992, with the first President being Mr. Paddy Benjamin and the first Executive Director was Dr. Edris Bird. Mr. Clarence E. Pilgrim was elected President in 2002. Mr Pilgrim is the first Antiguan and only person from the English Speaking Caribbean to receive the JA Worldwide Gold leadership Award in 2006.

Early years of Junior Achievement Antigua and Barbuda focused on building awareness and membership within Antigua until the historic moment in 2005 when Barbuda became involved and held its first successful in-school program. Junior Achievement of Antigua & Barbuda through its limited resources has reached approximately 5000 students since it's inception.

Students have been given the opportunity to plan, organize and execute various projects over the years which range from Newsletters, Magazines, Talent Shows, Valentines Presents- Sales, Ornamental Baskets, Christmas Cards, Making & Selling cakes, Bar-B-Ques, Making of Scrunches, Car Wash, Cook Books, Flower Pot Holders, New Year Cards etc.

The experience gained by the students is invaluable to their understanding of the business world and the kind of opportunities that exist for them.

To achieve our objectives we hold fund raising events throughout the year – so please check the What’s New  page for our next dates. Meetings are now held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Persons interested may contact any member of the executive, or e-mail on the address below.

Junior Achievers are always in need of aid – both financially and in time. Individual business people can get involved by joining our database of consultants to help with the students understanding of specialist areas they may need to research. And of course – there are the students. If you would like to get involved in the programme in anyway please contact us now for more information.
