JOLLY HARBOUR YACHT CLUB BACK TO LIFE! Wednesday 4th December 2013
Photo compliments of Jolly Harbour Yacht Club.
Jolly Harbour Yacht Club has found new life with a dedicated new committee determined to develop it once again into a vibrant and active local yacht club. 'Saturday Sailing' continues to take place every week and Thursday nights have been designated Club Night - a Club social evening that everyone is welcome to attend.
Several events are planned for the near future. The Club's Annual General Meeting will be held on January 6 at Il Giardino Restaurant at the Jolly Harbour Golf Club. The bar will open at 6 pm and the AGM will begin promptly at 6:45 pm.
The Committee is very hard at work planning the 2014 Jolly Harbour Valentine's Regatta and it hopes to see the return of the Rum Festival that was associated with the event for the first time this year. The Club is looking for a great deal of assistance and welcomes anyone with a bit of time to get in touch with Rear Commodore Grahame Williams at gwleopard1@gmail.com.
A pursuit race is planned for this Saturday, December 7 and skippers' packs with details of the race will be available at Club Night at West Point Bar on Thursday evening in advance of the race. Everyone is welcome to come and socialise while finding out more about the race.
A Club Christmas dinner is tentatively being planned for Thursday, December 19, following a possible special America's Cup presentation with a surprise guest visitor in attendance. Anyone interested in attending the Christmas dinner should get in touch with Commodore Budgie Burge at jollycommodore@gmail.com. The Club needs an idea of numbers so arrangements can be made and a suitable venue can be found at the last minute.
Membership for 2014 is increasing steadily and anyone interested in joining the Club is encouarged to get in touch with Membership Secretary Barbara Thomson at barbara.thomson123@gmail.com to avoid the rush at the upcoming AGM. Membership is very affordable and cruising sailors in particular are encouraged to join, even if only visiting the island for a short time, and to participate in the many sailing and social activities being planned for the coming year.
