JHYC ACTIVITY Friday 3rd July 2009
Yet another great weekend for JHYC activity with Saturday Sailing, Dinghy Training taking place on Saturday & Sunday, with Laser Racing on Sunday afternoon.
Unfortunately, on Saturday morning our expected six Scouts for YDP training were taken by their bus driver to English Harbour by mistake and their organiser was not best pleased! We still had six “New Horizon” kids and, as usual they had a great time and progressed their training just that little bit further.
Saturday afternoon saw Geoff Pidduck on “Biwi Magic” take 1st place in the CSA Class with Al & Jackie Ashford on “Tessa” taking the honours in the SPH Class. After 4 weeks of the Summer Series we now have 2 boats tied for 1st place in each Class. It is not too late to join in this terrific afternoon sailing event and we would all be delighted to see you out there on the course.
Sunday morning brought 4 youngsters and 1 adult back again to Dinghy Training and they are all making great progress.
Sunday afternoon was once again Laser Racing with Beach BBQ, sausages and a few beers and wine!. We had 5 “contenders”, 4 of them very keen to knock “Big” Al Ashford off the winner’s podium! Tony Isaac, Nick White, Nick Middleton and Chris Chitty all felt they had what it takes but, once again, “Big” Al in his heavier and older Laser swept the board! The odd capsize did not help their cause but we can already see significant improvements in ability and the finishes were a lot closer.
After 2 weeks we have decided to change the format to give more sailors a chance in these exciting dinghies. There are now more races of one lap each (approximately 15 minutes) and the fee will be a very reasonable EC$ 5 (members) and EC$10 (non members) per race and everyone is welcome to come and give it a go! Even if you do not fancy sailing, the social side of the BBQ on the beach in this wonderful location makes for a terrific, relaxed and fun afternoon.
Don’t forget the Hog Roast at the Foredeck this coming Saturday that will also include Saturday Sailing Results & Rum Ration giving. Support your Yacht Club! Read More
