LOUIS EVANS JOINS DIVE CARIB
Wednesday 10th October 2018

Louis Evans has joined Dive Carib as a full-time instructor and partner, teaming up with Bryan and Leigh in upholding the dive businesses’ repute as a PADI certified five-star resort. Louis’ professional diving career has previously whirled him all over the world to dive schools in Europe, Central America, Asia and Australia, but it’s his childhood roots that have driven him back to Antigua and Barbuda.

“I first dived here as a child with the late John Charlesworth at Aquanaut Divers, with Clem Christopher and Linda Swann. I have many fond memories of those times, and since then it has been my dream to work as a scuba diver in Antigua,” Louis says.

“I'm honored to join Dive Carib as a full-time instructor and partner. The immense experience that Bryan and Leigh hold made the decision a no brainier, and they can only help me grow further as a professional in the industry.”

Dive Carib manager Bryan says he is glad to have Louis on board especially for younger clients and beginners to diving. “Louis has a very patient, encouraging and sociable teaching method that creates a safe and enjoyable environment for children, and those who may not feel secure in the water,” he says.

“Diving is great for children. It gets them outdoors, builds their confidence, and by allowing them to become explorers of the ocean they learn of the important part they play in looking after it for future generations.”

With a degree in Marine Biology and Oceanography from the University of Plymouth, United Kingdom, Louis brings with him a valuable breadth of knowledge on marine organisms, how these interact within their habitats, and how ocean processes affect them.

“Being a diver, you are provided with a unique glimpse into another world underwater, so you naturally develop an immense appreciation for the life, processes and ecosystems governing the oceans we all swim in, live beside, or simply gaze out to,” Louis says.

“I hope to pass on this passion, and show others how they can also experience these wonders by scuba diving, whilst also learning how to protect and nurture ocean ecosystems.”

After graduating from Plymouth, Louis secured a position as a Dive Master in idyllic Santorini, Greece, guiding dives and assisting with running the business. He then travelled to Utila Dive Centre, Honduras, also considered the hub of diving, to gain his certification as a PADI instructor. Within three months and while simultaneously teaching a variety of diving courses, Louis obtained his PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, and PADI IDC Staff Instructor certifications.

“From Honduras I secured a position as a PADI instructor with Blue View Divers, Koh Phi Phi, Thailand, where I became the head instructor and helped the centre maintain its eco-friendly strategy. An approach I was, and am still very driven by,” Louis says.

The lack of temperate water led him to venture to the land down under, Australia, where he worked at Sydney’s renowned Dive Centre Manly as a PADI instructor. Maybe the water was a bit chillier than expected, there were a few too many rainy mornings, or he often found himself daydreaming about the Caribbean on his ferry commutes to work - but whatever the reason - Louis has now found himself at Dive Carib with an endless stretch of oceanic beauty to dive in.

Louis shares that he is excited to be back and work with partners and dive colleagues, Bryan and Leigh, in developing many of Dive Carib’s business prospects that will only see the dive centre grow.

“I cannot wait for the busy, hectic, and fun packed season ahead. Here's to us lads, onwards and upwards!”

Or downwards in their case…
