EPICUREAN HELPS KEEP ANTIGUA GREEN Thursday 25th September 2014
Epicurean Fine Foods & Pharmacy, with locations on Friar's Hill Road and at Jolly Harbour, does its part to help lessen waste on Antigua by recycling and encouraging its patrons to do likewise.
Throughout the store, shoppers will find recyclable green shopping bags for sale, at a cost of EC$4.99 each. These can be used in place of plastic bags, lessening the amount of plastic put into the Cooks Landfill and left as litter around the island.
In addition, they contribute to recycling in a large way by breaking down all the cardboard boxes their goods arrive in, compressing them and filling a 40-foot container that they deliver to the ABWREC Recycling Centre in Coolidge. They deliver a full container about once every 10 days according to Store Manager Richard Buoni.
The treated wood pallets that the boxes are shipped on are also recycled by being returned to the US rather than being burned here or sent to the landfill.
