HPV AND CANCER TESTING Wednesday 17th April 2024
The Ministry of Health will be hosting a special event focused on Human Papillomavirus (HPV) screening and vaccination. On April 27th, 2024, from 9 am to 2 pm, the ministry will organize a free HPV screening and vaccination drive at Freemans Village Primary School to support global vaccination efforts.
Vaccination Week 2024, themed "Protect with Vaccines, Save Lives," underscores the critical role of vaccination in preventing diseases and promoting public health. The Ministry of Health's event aligns with this theme by providing essential HPV screening and vaccination services to the community.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a prevalent sexually transmitted infection that can lead to various health complications, including cervical cancer. By offering accessible screening and vaccination services, the Ministry of Health aims to raise awareness about HPV and empower individuals to protect themselves against HPV-related health issues.
Deputy Superintendant of Public Health Nurses, Nurse Wanda Samuel says "The Ministry is pleased to participate in Vaccination Week 2024 and contribute to the global effort to promote vaccination as a cornerstone of public health. Our HPV Screening and Vaccination highlights the importance of HPV prevention and underscores the ministry's commitment to improving health outcomes for all."
Communications Officer at the Ministry of Health, J'noure Smith-Kellman says "The event is open to individuals aged 30 to 59 for screening and individuals aged 9 to 26 for vaccination, with no appointment necessary. Participants are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to prioritize their health and take proactive steps towards prevention.
