Artist, Alvin Kofi Ferri will be showcasing his art show ‘Colour & Movement’, which will take place in the upstairs gallery of the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda from November 28th to December 3rd, 2009.
Born of Antiguan parents, Kofi is one of the leading black artists in the UK. Kofi also works with young artists in the UK and is keen to meet young Antiguan artists: “I really enjoy meeting young artists and discussing with them the importance of being culturally aware, of expressing who they are in their art.”
In the UK, Kofi regularly facilitates workshops and lectures on the Cultural responsibility of artists. In 2003 he started the ‘Black Arts Focus’ collective where eighteen black artists gathered to discuss and explore their art and experience as black artists. Kofi is also the founder member of the successful UK black artists collective ‘Colour and Movement’.
He also works in the education system with students studying for GCSE and ‘A’ level Art as well as hosting Master Drawing Art workshops in the general community.
His show ‘Colour & Movement’ will feature early and recent works that represent our experience in the Diaspora of originals, limited edition prints, greeting cards and many diverse prints. Kofi is also a writer and much of his artwork is accompanied by original poems and passages.
The show is being produced by sw17 with assistance from Mama Lolly’s Vegetarian Cafe; A&F Manufacturing Co. Ltd.; Williams & Associates Dental Clinic and Agenda Concepts.
