The Optimist Club of St. John’s was formed on March 11, 1992 as a local chapter of Optimist International which is a non-profit international network of volunteers dedicated to “Bringing out the Best in Kids”, through community service projects that provide young people with a helping hand and empowers them to be the best they can.
Optimist strive to live up to their name and maintain an upbeat attitude, which they try to passalong to the children they serve.
The Optimists have as their mission that by providing hope and positive vision, Optimist bring out the best in kids.
Their vision is that Optimist International will be recognized worldwide as the premier volunteer organization that values all children and helps them develop to their full potential.
The Optimist Club of St. John’s is run by a Board of Directors, comprised of a president, two vice presidents, four directors, secretary, immediate past president, and a president elect.
Since each club is autonomous and run by members in their community, Optimists have the unique flexibility to serve the youth in their area in any way they see fit. Once a need is identified they react to it.
Optimist International officially sponsors several International Programs:
The Childhood Cancer Campaign
Internet Safety
The Optimist International Junior Golf Championships
and the organization's scholarship contests (Essay Contest, Oratorical Contest and Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing)
In addition, Optimist International encourages involvement in several other community activities:
Respect for Law/Promotion of Non-Violence
Tri-Star Sports Skills Challenges

Youth Safety
