ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION

 

Antigua and Barbuda’s qualifying team for the World Cup; the Benna Boys are set to come up against Guatemala in the first of two matches which is slated for September 7th, 2012 in Guatemala.
 

The Boyz left the island on Sunday September 2nd and have arrived safely in the Central American country. They have hit the ground running and have already had their first practice session.
 

The Benna Boyz play Guatemala in the first match at the Estadio Mateo Flores. This is the same stadium where Guatemala and the United States shared a draw. Four days later, the two countries will challenge each other on the Benna Boys home turf at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Tuesday, September 11th at 7pm.
 

President of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) and General Secretary of the Antigua & Barbuda Football Association (ABFA), Gordon “Banks” Derrick, says he expects a positive result from the impending match.
 

Derrick says the Boys have been working hard and are well prepared for the match in Guatemala. He is hoping for a win or a draw but says for the second match on September 11th where the Benna Boys will be on home turf a win would be the ultimate.
 

Benna Boys coach Tom Curtis says, “We’ve worked on making the right kind of preparations…we want to get through the next two games in shape to reach the final round…I don’t know if that’s a win and a draw or a win and win, but we’re aiming to reach that final round, nothing less.”
 

Antigua & Barbuda and Guatemala are tied at the bottom of Group A. Only the top two teams from each section will move on to the final hexagonal round. This means that the two matches are of vital importance for both Antigua and Barbuda and Guatemala.
