AUA BRINGS IN US TRIATHLETE FOR TINMAN ROHR Thursday 21st August 2014
American University of Antigua (AUA) has announced it is sponsoring USA pro triathlete Jaclyn Fahey to compete at the third annual AUA Tinman Rohr Triathlon on Saturday, August 23.
Fahey is a multiple Ironman finisher, ultra marathoner and USAT Triathlon Coach. Some of her recent accomplishments include first overall female finisher in the 2014 Long Island Triathlon, Lido Beach, and 3rd overall finisher;12th in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, San Francisco; first in the Town of Hempstead Triathlon, Point Lookout, NY; and first in the Great South Bay Triathlon, Islip, NY.
The AUA Tinman Rohr Triathlon is a half iron triathlon including a 2 kilometre swim, 90 kilometre bike and 21 kilometre ride. It also includes several team and individual shorter events as well as kids' events.
American University of Antigua College of Medicine Tinman Rohr Triathlon is held annually in honour of former AUA student and triathlete Jonathan Rohr, who died suddenly in late 2011.
Meanwhile, the event this year will, for the first time, have a strong emphasis on youth with 18 & Under, 14 & Under, 10 & Under and 6 & Under titles all up for grabs for the first time in significantly shorter races.
There will also be an emphasis on fitness and healthy lifestyles with non-athletes encouraged to take part in the mini tri of a 500m swim, 10k bike and 2k run, either as individuals or in teams of three persons.
