A&B 2ND IN NEVIS ROUND THE ISLAND RELAY Friday 9th May 2014

A team from Antigua and Barbuda placed second in the 2nd Annual Nevis Round the Island on Labour Day Monday May 5th.
Led by veteran distance runner and athletics coach Cordova “Popeye” Simon; the ten person team, including two females, finished the 31 kilometer relay in 2 hours, 8 minutes and 33 seconds.
They were just around 2 minutes shy of the winning team from St. Kitts dubbed the Marshall All Stars who completed the race in 2:06:01. Nevis’s Breath Takers team led by Reginald Douglas took third in 2:15:23.
A total of 12 teams took part in the event, with each team required to enter ten persons including at least two females.
Each member of Antigua & Barbuda’s team ran a 3.1k leg over varying terrain with the latter stages from 5 to 8 particularly hilly. The legs were in order run as follows: Kevinia Francis 13:45, Wayne Henry 12:31, John Henry 13:32, Timothy Thomas 13:26, Lewis Butler 12:26, Arthur “Mosei” Mussington 13:09, Margarita Fernandez Lores 17:21, Nevil Nicholls 12:37, Kamar Thomas 9:02, Cordova Simon 10:43.
The team travelled to Nevis via the Nazareth boat thanks to David Mendes-Wynter and Captain Stuart Meyer. The trip was made possible by their support as well as the Big Banana Limited, West Indies Oil Company (WIOC) and the Wadadli Triathlon Club.
