This year's AUA Rohrman Triathlon is not just about the competition; it's about honoring the legacy of a remarkable individual who has made significant contributions to our community and the world of sports. Join us in celebrating the life and achievements of the late Andre Simon at Rohrman 2024. Pictured above is Andre Simon with his son Antwone.
Honoring Andre Simon:
Andre Simon was a beloved national cyclist, runner, and triathlete from Antigua, known for his dedication and passion for the sport. Born on November 13, 1987, he achieved significant success in his career, including multiple national championships. Andre was an inspiring figure, not only for his athletic achievements but also for his commitment to mentoring young cyclists and promoting the sport within the community.
Tragically, in May 2022, Andre was involved in a severe road accident while training, which left him critically injured. Despite a valiant 13-month battle with his injuries, he passed away on June 8, 2023, in Houston, Texas. His perseverance and courage during this challenging time inspired many, and his loss has deeply affected the cycling community and the nation as a whole​.
Andre was a founding member of the Tinman and later Rohrman (named after the late AUA student and triathlete Jonathan Rohr).
Bench at Cade Peak Lookout:
To honor Andre Simon's legacy, a commemorative bench has been installed at the Cade Peak Lookout. This spot holds special significance as it overlooks one of the most beautiful vistas in Antigua and symbolizes Andre's love for the sport and nature. During the Rohrman events, participants in the trail race will pass by this bench, providing a moment of reflection and tribute to an extraordinary athlete and person.
Aurelien Raphael returns this year to compete in both the Olympic distance triathlon and Rohrman advanced 15k Trail Race/Hike. A former junior European and World Champion and former French national champion, Aurelien is one of the world’s best triathletes and holds the course record in Antigua.
David Hauss returns to compete in the Rohrman advanced 15k Trail Race and will form part of a team in the AUA Rohrman Triathlon.
Triathlon Achievements:

Olympic Participation: David competed in the London 2012 Olympics, where he finished 4th in the men's triathlon, narrowly missing out on a medal.

World Triathlon Series: He has numerous podium finishes in the World Triathlon Series, showcasing his consistent high-level performance.

European Championships: He won a bronze medal at the 2010 European Championships, further establishing himself as a top triathlete.
Trail Running Achievements:

Trail de Bourbon: David won this challenging trail race twice, which is a part of the Grand Raid de la Réunion, one of the toughest ultra-trail races in the world.

Piton des Neiges Record: He set a record for the ascent of Piton des Neiges, highlighting his exceptional endurance and climbing ability.

Wildstrubel by UTMB: David has achieved podium finishes in prestigious UTMB events, including a victory in the Wildstrubel by UTMB.
Benjamin Sanson returns to compete in the 8k Open Water Swim from Morris Bay to Ffreyes and will compete in a team for the Rohrman Triathlon. Sanson is a former youth world champion swimmer and multiple national swimming record holder in France who became known for being one of the fastest swimmers in elite triathlon competitions.
