SCHOOL FOOTBALL SEASON STARTS OFF Tuesday 9th October 2012
The 2012/13 Inter-schools’ Football League was officially launched on Friday, October 5, in the hall of the Antigua Grammar School.
Addressing the Launch were the Coordinator of Schools’ Football, Rowan (Porridge) Benjamin, Director of Sports, Mr. Mervyn Richards and Sports Minister, Sen. Winston Williams. Missing were the representatives of the Sponsors, Cool & Smooth. Visibly absent was any representative of the Antigua/Barbuda Football Association.
Mr. Benjamin made a roll call of all the teams participating in this season’s program and reiterated a few of the important rules of the League. Teams also had to present their full uniforms at the Launching.
Director of Sports, Mr. Mervyn Richards charged the teams to be dedicated to the sport of football and work hard for improvement. “The best player was once a baby and a youth like you. You’re no different, you can also become the best,” said Richards.
Minister of Sports, Senator Winston Williams made a brief address to the teams and coaches and declared the 2012/13 Schools Football Program officially open.
Thirty-nine (39) teams will be participating this school year in four (4) divisions: twelve (12) teams each in the Boys’ Under 15 and Boys’ Under 18; five (5) teams in the Girls’ Under 15 and ten (10) teams in the Girls’ Under 18.
