BROWN MEDALS IN JAVELIN Monday 9th July 2012
Antigua/Barbuda is expecting creditable performances by the country’s two top junior athletes, Tahir Walsh and Cejhae Greene, at the 14th World Junior Track & Field Championships. Both young athletes will compete in the 100M & 200M at the Championships which is scheduled for the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium in Barcelona Spain from July 10 –15, 2012.
Both athletes recently competed in the CAC Junior Championships in El Salvador, where Cejhae Greene accomplished two bronze medals in the 100M & 200M. The two athletes are being accompanied by Coach Calvin Greenaway.
Meanwhile, two other athletes, Kasheem Colbourne of PSE and Oraine “Chad” Brown, are attending the North American, Central American & Caribbean (NACAC) U-23 Championships in Guanajuato, Mexico, July 7—8, 2012. So far, at the end of Day 1, Brown got as close as he could to medaling in the Javelin, with a throw of 65.70M, only to beaten into 5th place by two Americans, a Mexican and a Canadian. Tim Glover of USA won with a throw of 78.28M.
This was Brown’s personal best and a new Antigua/Barbuda National Record. Kasheem Colbourne is expected to compete in the 200M and 400M. The team is accompanied by Coach Evans (Jawaki) Jones. The NACAC Championships were established in 1998 with the age limit of U-25yr. However, this was changed to U-23 when a Congress was held in Grenada in 2003.
