WINGS CAPTURE INAUGURAL YOUTH FESTIVAL Monday 20th February 2012
Barbara Coates Presents Football Pins to the Wings.
The Wings Youth Football Unit held its First Youth Football Festival on Saturday, February 18, at the St. Joseph’s Academy small field.
It was a 7 on 7 Round-Robin competition in the U-13 and U-16 categories. The teams taking part in the U-13 category were Wings, Young Warriors, and St. John’s Catholic Primary.
Participating in the U-16, were Wings, Young Warriors, Westham, Villa Lions, Brownies Bakery, and the Wings girls.
After the Round-Robin, Brownies defeated Villa Lions 1-0 in the Semi-Finals and
Wings shot out Westham 2-0.
Wings went on to put away Brownies 2-0 in the Final to capture its Inaugural Football
Festival Title.
Football and Outstanding Performance pins were presented to the winning team and outstanding players of the various teams.
Some other Scores in the Festival were: Villa 4, Wings 4; Westham 7, Wings Girls
1; Young Warriors 3, Brownies 3; Villa 2, Westham 0; Westham 0, Brownies 0.
Chairperson of the Wings Football Unit, Mrs. Barbara Coates expressed her pleasure
in the Inaugural Festival and her intentions for a much better one, especially with the venue, next year. She expressed thanks to Coaches Ijahbah Codrington, Lenny Quasie, Thaddeus Price and Everton Coates for their assistance with the tournament and Christo’s Supermarket for the kind donation toward the food stall.
