Star Girls trouncing of Wings a Mismatch as CPTSA Female Football continues.
The 10th Annual CPTSA Female Football Tournament, sponsored by Hutchinson (Antigua) Ltd., and the Antigua/Barbuda Social Security Board, continued at the Johnson's Football Stadium on Saturday, October 23, 2011, with only one game.
The game featured a mismatch between the U-16 rookie team of Wings and the highly experienced women football veterans of Star Girls.
The Wings who came out of a near win, the previous week, against Police, but which ended in a 3 all draw, fielded a much weaker team on Saturday. In fact, the Wings were left to start with nine (9) players, when a number of the young but more experienced players failed to show. Nevertheless, with a substitute goalkeeper, in Jessica Zouetr, the absence of their main stricker, Khadijah Morris and main defender Tane Codrington, the Wings took to the field showing A twelve member squad of U-16yrs girls, mainly from the Antigua Girls High School and the Christ the King High School are, at the moment, preparing to represent Antigua/Barbuda at the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association Youth Tournament, scheduled for St. Lucia, November 4-6th, 2011.
The girls are: Natasha Best, Jenna Greer, Themera Tyson, Morgan Halstead, George-Ann Ryan, Thandi Ferris, Shakyra Cornelius, Makaila Harris, Kevisha Watkins, Ellisha Watkins, Ashanna Carty and Yamlet Martin. The girls under Head Coach Rosely Lewis and Assistant, Shauna Isaac are working diligently at the YMCA Volleyball Gym, getting competition ready. There is an unconfirmed number of 10 countries, expected to participate in the regional tournament.
