WINGS SPORTS CLUB TRACK AND FIELD CLASSIC Monday 31st January 2011
Wings Sports Club will be hosting the 3rd Annual Sir Reginald Samuel Track & Field Classic scheduled for Saturday, April 30 and Sunday May 1, 2011 at the YASCO Sports Complex.
Organizers are concerned about the level of sponsorship needed to hold this important athletic event. A number of companies have been approached and others will be contacted shortly, to make sure that there is a greater success over last year’s Meet. The main sponsor in its first two hostings was the State Insurance Corporation. Other companies came onboard later. Even though funds were lacking, the organizers managed to put on a creditable event. Mainly lacking was the support of parents and the general public to witness the talents of some of Antigua & Barbuda and the region’s rising athletic stars.
Associations, Clubs and Schools, locally and throughout the Caribbean are being invited to participate in one of the few regional invitational track & field meets. According to Wings Track & Field Coach, Everton Cornelius, Antigua can expect a surge of track & field athletes for the Sir Reginald Samuel Classic if the 2011 Carifta Games are cancelled.
The hosting of the 2011 Carifta Games has become uncertain since St. Kitts — which was slated to hold the Meet — are financially unable. The Bahamas has indicated that they would host the Meet. An announcement to this effect is expected to be made by Carifta officials, shortly. Click here for all News and Specials for CPTSA Wings Sports Club
