SVG JR INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT Wednesday 15th August 2012
The delay in this report is due to the late completion of matches yesterday (14 Aug 2012),
the rain delays forced match referee to make a decision to play into the night.
The results coming out of the SVG open were mixed, with Under 18 player Jody
Maginley advancing to the doubles Quarterfinals after bowing out of the singles
competition.
#4 seeded Jody Maginley came up against the Venezulan qualifier Gervis Gonzalez losing
3-6, 6-1, 6-1; Maginley however bounced back with his doubles partner Alex Rybakov
of the United States defeating the Trinidadian duo of Joshua Abraham / Jualon Greig
6-1, 7-6(0). Maginley and Rybakov now advance to the doubles quarterfinals.
Shakir Elvin made his exit yesterday in both the singles and doubles competition.
Elvin who advanced to round 2 in the first day of competition, met a tougher apponent
in that of #6 seed Cardenas G. Penchyna(MEX). Penchyna overcame Elvin defeating him 7-5, 6-2.
Elvin soon met Cardenas again in the doubles competition. Elvin teamin up with Elan
Murray Mendes (TRI) went down to the doubles team of #4 seeded Cardenas G. Penchyna(MEX)/ Manuel
Castellanos(DOM) 6-4, 6-3
D'Jeri Raymond too made her final exit at the SVG Jr. International yesterday. Raymond teaming
up with Bahamian Dominique Mortier was outsted by the #4 seeded doubles team Karla Portalatin(DOM/
Elizabeth Sutherland (USA) 6-3, 6-3
Matches were completed last evening at around 9:30pm.
