ANTIGUA PLACES SECOND IN ANGOSTURA GLOBAL COCKTAIL CHALLENGE
Monday 14th October 2013

Daniel “Timmy” Thomas of Nonsuch Bay Resort, representing Antigua & Barbuda was awarded an impressive second place in the Angostura® aromatic bitters Global Cocktail Challenge 2014 Caribbean Regional Finals that took place at the Radisson Aquatica Resort, Barbados on Friday 11th October.

Six bartenders from the region – drawn from Grenada, St. Vincent, St. Marteen, Antigua & Barbuda, St. Kitts & Nevis and host country Barbados - competed in the challenge in which they prepared two cocktails, one rum based and one freestyle recipe in seven minutes, whilst impressing the judges with their bartending skills.

The cocktail creations were sampled and judged by a three-member panel – Raymond Edwards (Head Judge), Chief Mixologist Angostura®; Jamaal Bowen, Angostura® aromatic bitters brand Ambassador for the Caribbean region; and Ralph York, Director at Sanojah’s & Llew & Nary’s Barbados.

Wearing his National Antigua tie and armband, Thomas produced his two cocktails “Oh My Gosh”, a corn and basil rum based cocktail and his freestyle cocktail “Spring”, mixed with apple vodka, Angostura® aromatic bitters, apple juice and ginger beer, with time to spare.

Rohan Hackshaw of Sandy Lane Hotel, Barbados narrowly beat Thomas, and will on March 2nd 2014, join with bartenders from South Africa, USA, UK, Canada, Ukraine, New Zealand, Cuba, Russia and Trinidad and Tobago for next year’s event carded for Trinidad.

Thomas’s championship cocktails will be available as specials for a limited time at
Nonsuch Bay Resort.
