WORLD PREMIERE OF VANISHING SAIL - THE STORY OF A CARIBBEAN TRADITION
Wednesday 15th April 2015

Vanishing Sail - The Story of a Caribbean Tradition
World Premiere, Independent Documentary Film

[From Alexis Andrews, Indian Creek Films, Antigua, West Indies]

The World Premiere of Vanishing Sail will take place during the 20th Anniversary St. Barth Film Festival on 30th April 2015 at the main dock in Gustavia - with the last remaining Sloops & Schooners of the West Indies in attendance. A fitting location given the historical significance of this unique freeport where alcohol & cigarettes were once loaded on vessels of all sizes bound for the beaches of the small islands.

The film follows Alwyn Enoe, one of the last traditional boatbuilders in the Carriacou over three years as he builds one final sailing sloop with the hope that his sons will continue the craft. From hauling trees out of the forest to a traditional launching ceremony on the bayside, tales of trading by sail and smuggling contraband weave through his own story told by some of the great Caribbean vesselmen.

“So the sea is our extension, that is our goldmine.”

Michael Caesar, Petite Martinique - Former United Nations Ambassador

Using simple tools and a lifetime of knowledge Alwyn and his sons created something more than just a beautiful vessel: a possibility for the once proud traditions of the Grenadines to continue a little longer.

The screening will be followed by the West Indies Regatta - "Reconnecting the Islands with Traditional Sail", a three day event celebrating the skills of wooden boatbuilding with an artisanal island market, exhibitions, live music and much more.

There will be further screenings at Film Festivals in the USA & Europe during the summer. If you would like more information about this topic, please visit www.vanishingsail.com
