Antigua sent a team of young sailors to the 25th Semaine Nautique Internationale de Schoelcher in Martinique from 13th to 17th February, 2015. The team comprised of two classes – three Optimist sailors and three Laser Radial sailors. The racing took place over four days starting on 14th Feb with three races every day featuring sailors from Great Britain, France, Holland, St Lucia, Canada, Cuba, and Trinidad and Tobago. The Antiguan team had respectable results in both classes and showed everyone that they have what it takes and they came to win.

The Optimist sailors, Rocco Falcone 14 years old (Island Academy School), Louis Bavay 14 years old (St. Anthony’s Secondary) and River Andrews 13 years old (Island Academy School) did very well. Rocco and Louis were very consistent and came overall 4th and 5th respectively. River Andrews came 24th out of 41 boats.

Jules snagged the 3rd place trophy having had a 1st on the third day and two 1sts on the last day of racing and consistently coming in the first 8 places. Rhone Kirby came 9th and Vincent Anfi 11th out of 24 boats.

The coach for the Laser team is Karl James but he was unable to attend with the team.

The coach for the Optimist team is Magnus Brun.  Magnus attended with the Optimist team and acted as coach for the Laser team when debriefing, etc. and also acted as a chaperone.

A group of Antigua's youth sailors headed to Martinique late last week to participate in the 25th Schoelcher International Regatta.  The Regatta is a five-day event with sailors participating from Europe and the Caribbean region.  Racing started on Saturday, February 24.  Antigua's youth sailors participating include:

Laser Team:

Jules Mitchel
Rhone Kirby
Vincent Anfi

Optimist Team:

Rocco Falcone
Louis Bavay
River Andrews

After three days of racing, the Antigua team is doing exceptionally well.

The Laser team results are as follows: Jules Mitchell is in third place.  He finished 1st, 8th, and 5th in Monday's races. The 8 was discarded as a sailor's worst score is allowed to be discarded. Rhone Kirby placed 12th, 14th and 12th and is now in 9th place. Vincent Anfi placed 6th, 13th and 8th and is in 11th place. Their scores are out of 50 boats.

The Optimist sailors are in a fleet of 46 boats and after yesterday Rocco Falcone is in 4th place finishing 7th, 5th and 1st yesterday; Louis Bavay is in 5th place; and River Andrews is in 21st place after he placed 6th, 11th and 27th yesterday.

All in all the Antiguan team is doing so well and making us all proud! So proud of all of them. Today, Tuesday, February 17, is the final day of racing. SAIL FAST TEAM ANTIGUA!!!!

Thanks to Susan Mitchell, mother of Jules Mitchell, for keeping us posted.
