CORNWALL AND HINDS TOP WICB 50 OVER RUNS AND WICKETS CHARTS
Wednesday 27th October 2010

Statistics show that, for the most part, the captains led from the front in the WICB Regional 50 Over Tournament.

Leeward Islands captain Wilden Cornwall topped the runs table while his opposing captain in the final – Barbados’ Ryan Hinds – topped the wickets tally.

Cornwall, the burly all rounder, registered 188 runs in five innings with an average of 37.6 while Barbados batsman Kirk Edwards totaled three runs less than Cornwall but averaged 46.25.

Jamaican captain Chris Gayle (153), Windward Islands opener Johnson Charles (152) and Barbadian batsman Jonathan Carter (143) rounded off the top five as 14 batsmen registered a hundred runs or more.

Trinidad & Tobago’s Darren Bravo was the Tournament’s only centurion (104*) while there were twenty one half centuries, one of which was former Combined Campuses & Colleges captain Floyd Reifer’s 99.

Four Barbadian batsmen are in the top ten runs aggregate list while there were two from the Leeward Islands (Cornwall and Chesney Hughes who made a total of 120 runs).

Devon Smith topped the batting averages list with 70.5 followed by his Windward Islands teammates Keddy Lesporis’ (67) and Lindon James’ (64).

Hinds led his team’s bowling as he took a tournament leading 14 wickets which was four more than the ten each taken by Guyanese leg spinner Devendra Bishoo, Windwards captain and medium pace all rounder Darren Sammy and Barbadian pacer Tino Best.

Leewards pacer Lionel Baker completed the top five with 9 wickets.

The pint-sized Bishoo had the best figures in an innings with his 6 for 36 against Barbados while the Bajans were also on the receiving end of the Tournament’s other 6-fer when Jamaica’s Andre Russell bagged 6 for 45 in the second semi final.
Baker (5 for 33) and Best (5 for 24) were the only two other bowlers who took five wickets or more in an innings.

Among bowlers who played in two matches or more, feisty Leewards leg spinner Anthony Martin – who took the Tournament’s only hat trick – had the best economy rate with 2.82 runs per over as he took eight wickets for 96 runs from 34 overs.

Baker’s performance won him the Man of the Match in the final while Cornwall and Hinds took the awards for the Tournament’s best batsman and bowler respectively.

Barbadian batsman Dale Richards copped the Tournament’s best fielder award.
