Digicel, Antigua and Barbuda’s Bigger, Better network, has announced its proud sponsorship of the Antigua and Barbuda Association of Persons with Disabilities.

As part of its ongoing commitment to Antigua and Barbuda, Digicel is sponsoring the association’s upcoming summer camp for children with disabilities which takes place from July 5th – 16th. In addition, Digicel has donated mobile phones and a free closed user group to the executive members of the association to ensure they can stay in contact with each other for free.

Digicel Antigua and Barbuda Country Manager, John Delves said; “Digicel is committed to giving back to the communities from which we draw our strength and with that is proud to sponsor Antigua and Barbuda’s Association for Persons with Disabilities. “We hope to create more opportunities for people with special needs - as well as help raise awareness of the ongoing needs of the association.”

The summer camp for children with disabilities is the first of its kind for the association and is headed up by executive member of the Association for Persons with Disabilities, Camelita Archibald, who said; “The camp is intended to bring these children together in a fun and educational setting – something that is too often neglected. The camp will see the children and parents trying their hand at arts and crafts and sports - and taking part in field trips which include a trip to the pineapple farm and to the movies.

“It’s marvellous for the association to not only have the financial backing from Digicel, but also its support in the form of Digicel volunteers who will be taking time out to help make this summer camp a success for all the participants. I would like to thank Digicel from the bottom of my heart – particularly given that it is not often that companies respond so positively when approached; Digicel heard our call and for that we’re extremely happy,” continued Archibald.

President of the Association, Bernard Warner said; “The fight for acceptance for persons with disabilities is ongoing, but with support from companies like Digicel, we are continuing to break barriers and build bridges. “We are very grateful to Digicel for its support and we look forward to an ongoing relationship with John and his team long into the future,” he continued.
