GATE STUDENTS BEGIN INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME WITH DIGICEL Monday 8th September 2014
Antigua and Barbuda’s best and brightest receive valuable on-the-job training
Demonstrating its commitment to the Government Assisted Technology Endeavour (GATE) programme, Digicel selected Zolene Edwards, Allex Bailey and Jahmorie Henry to join the company today for a 3-month internship programme that will see them benefiting from valuable work experience as they work closely with the various teams throughout the business.
The three interns received training in areas such as Computer Repairs, Upgrades and Diagnostics, New Media, Photography, Videography, Basic Networking, Inventory Management, and Customer Service as part of the GATE programme. Each of them will be assigned to their respective departments based on their backgrounds but will also receive training in all aspects of the business during their three month stint.
Two years ago, Digicel entered into a partnership with the Antigua and Barbuda Government to launch a multi-million dollar education initiative that marked the first-ever introduction of LTE technology into the Caribbean. The programme’s aim was to deliver a world-class LTE network to students across the country and give them access to state-of-the-art tablet computers that they would use during their daily studies – making them the most technologically advanced student body in the region. Two years on and Digicel continues its support of the programme by accepting three students who benefited from the GATE programme for internships.
Digicel Antigua and Barbuda CEO Victor Corcoran encouraged the interns to believe in themselves and to strive for success while at Digicel, saying; “If you want to succeed in the world of business and stay ahead of the competition, you have to show your commitment and dedication to the job, which means going above and beyond doing just the basics. It’s about being driven and having the desire to accomplish your goals – no matter what the challenges. The Digicel team members are happy to have you with us and will do our best to support you during your internship here.”
