DIGICEL RENEWS SPONSORSHIP OF HAITI NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM
Friday 28th May 2010

Digicel, proud sponsor of football in the Caribbean, today announced that it has renewed its support of the Haiti Football Federation in a multimillion dollar deal over the next four years. In addition, Digicel also donated vital office supplies and equipment to the Federation whose building was destroyed in the earthquake on January 12th.

Having sponsored the men’s national team and the first division league since 2006, Digicel has worked closely with the Haiti Football Federation over the last four years to develop additional programmes to support the development of the sport such as the Digicel Kick Start Clinics.

As well as sponsoring the national team, the national league and its 16 teams; this new deal also supports the women’s national league - which is the first time the women’s league has ever received support from corporate Haiti. In addition, the Digicel-sponsored teams and the Federation also receive Digicel handsets and credit.

To help get the Federation back on track following the earthquake which destroyed its headquarters in Port-au-Prince, Digicel has kitted out its new building with computers, conference tables, chairs, scanners, printers, photocopiers, generators and a water pump. In addition, nearly 1,000 handsets were distributed to the Federation and to its first and second division teams.

Digicel Haiti CEO, Maarten Boute, said of today’s announcement: “Supporting the development of football is very important to Digicel, not only in Haiti but across the Caribbean and Central America. Like so many in Haiti, the Football Federation suffered great losses as a result of the January 12th earthquake. As proud sponsors of Haitian football and football lovers, we’re determined to do all that we can to help it to rebuild and once again see the players performing to their full potential.”
