Mackenzie Brown-Kambeitz is the lucky winner of Digicel’s “Sing to Meet Tessanne Chin” competition through which she got the opportunity to party in VIP style with The Voice star at the Nautical Concert on Saturday, May 3, at Splash Antigua.
Mackenzie, who delivered an amazing rendition of Lana Del Ray’s ‘Beautiful Girl’ accompanied by her acoustic guitar, beat her competition with 6,537 votes. Her prize included a pass to the first day of the two-day concert event, four VIP passes to the concert on Saturday, an autographed CD, poster and photo of Tessanne Chin along with backstage access - and the chance to party with the ‘Hideaway’ songstress.
“I am very grateful that Antigua has accepted me and my music with open arms. And I will continue to share and learn with the world the universal language that is music.I've been singing my whole life. My mom said that I could sing before I could make a full sentence. I always knew it was something I wanted to be known for,” said Brown-Kambeitz.
The married mother of one, Mackenzie, travelled the world with her acoustic guitar but now resides in Antigua and Barbuda with her family.
Although Mackenzie was declared the winner, the Digicel team felt it was necessary to acknowledge and reward the person in second place for their hard work.
“We felt that we should reward Shamere Yearwood as well because she really worked hard in the last two days of the competition to get her votes within 15 of Mackenzie’s and for this, we will give her a backstage pass and the opportunity to meet one of her music inspirations, Tessanne. Congratulations to both of them and we would also like to thank everyone who participated in this competition and shared the excitement with us,” said Digicel LTE Marketing Manager Patrice Simon.
Shamere, an A-level student at the Antigua State College, covered Adele’s Grammy award winning song, “Someone Like You” for which she received 6,522 votes.
