A&B SCORES BIG IN TECH SECTOR
Monday 30th July 2012

It comes to no surprise that Antigua and Barbuda has yet again scored big in the world of information and communications (ICT). Antigua and Barbuda has been awarded the prestigious “Connect the Carribean Project of the Year Award”, at this year's Caribbean Associations of National Telecommunications Organisations annual meeting in Miami, Florida.

Antigua, in partnership with Digicel, has received the top prize for a multi-million dollar, revolutionary ICT project, the Government Assisted Technology Endeavour (GATE). As stated by Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister, Dr. Edmond Mansoor, the GATE project not only attracted the attention of the eminent judges’ panel but also received praises from several regional ICT Ministers as well as international telecommunication providers and regulators.

“The Government Assisted Technology Endeavour will leverage on Digicel’s imminent commissioning of a 4G LTE technology platform,” Minister Mansoor told hundreds of delegates at the Miami Convention Centre. “GATE’s empowerment value will manifest itself in the training of hundreds of ICT cadets and in the construction of a state-of-the-art 4G LTE-enabled, multi-purpose ICT training facility.

“These ICT industries will all leverage on 4G LTE technology. Our thrust towards the development of software applications in Antigua is gaining momentum with the announcement of the 4G LTE network,” Minister Mansoor added.

As the governments senior advisor on GATE concluded, Antigua and Barbuda is the first country in the English-speaking Caribbean to deploy this cutting-edge technology, and this has already been internationally acclaimed.
