In the first of five exciting episodes of the Digicel Supermarket Sweep on ABS TV last night, unemployed single mother of three from Cassada Gardens, Viola Scotland, swept her way to the first prize of $5,000 in groceries.

Viola was one of three finalists who participated in the supermarket sweep at the Epicurean Fine Foods & Pharmacy, partners in the Digicel promotion.

In what was a race against time, all three finalists had 30 seconds to fill their shopping carts – with no more than three of the same item.

Gemma Hunte was the first to attempt the sweep after she confidently guessed the price of white asparagus in the “guess the price” trivia, which was to determine the order in which each finalist will have their chance to “sweep”. Viola was second and Valerie was third.

It all came down to a nail biting finish as the finalists were cashed out.

Gemma Hunte of English Harbour and Valerie Gonsalves-Barreiro of Longsford Development came second and third walking away with $3,000 and $2,000 in groceries respectively.

Beaming with excitement, Viola, thanked Digicel and Epicurean for her chance to win and said; “Although I am a little speechless and nervous, I feel wonderful”. She also acknowledged her three children Shanique, Shanice and Kadeem.

The shoppers were independently selected by an auditor from a list of qualifying contestants had jointly spent $200 or more at Epicurean fine foods and pharmacy within the two weeks preceding the sweep and had been a Digicel customer who had talked for three minutes or more, paid their bill on time and in full or bought a phone with a SIM.

Janice Sutherland, Digicel Commercial Manager, congratulated the winners and commended them for providing such an entertaining show for the viewers. “Digicel continuously looks for exciting and innovative ways to give back to our customers and with the Digicel Supermarket Sweep promotion, we have done just that. We had a great start to the competition and these were really good contestants for this week’s sweep. Everyone now, going forward, can pick up a few tips on how to win the next sweep. To be in with a chance to win, customers must simply talk for three minutes or more, pay your bill on time and in full, buy a phone or shop at Epicurean fine foods & pharmacy.”

The 30 minute show hosted by top media personality, Brucella Marsh, and will see five episodes in total air on ABS TV every fortnight. In the final episode, the value of the prizes will double.
