2010 TOP RANKING NATIONAL ROAD CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS,

Cosmos Richardson up staged the race favorites at the 2010 Top Ranking National Road Cycling Championships, held Sunday 20th June.
Club Savoy, Cosmos Richardson wasn’t in anyone’s prediction on who will be earn the ABI Insurance National Champion Trophy at the end of Sunday’s race, but the 26 year old, 3rd year rider outputted the best ride of the day. Cosmos Omari Richardson breaks free half way in the 3rd lap, he was then joined by Brian Lyn and Marvin Spencer, but the two only manage to complete a lap with the race leader. Richardson rode the 2 off his wheel to be the lone leader at the start of the 5th and final lap. But it wasn’t an easy road to the finish line for him. The race favorites began a raging pace in pursuit of the leader, picking up the other 2 and leaving them in the dust, but Omari manage to keep away by sprinting to the line 1.8 seconds ahead of the raging pack to win his 1st race of his career, 2010 National Road Champion.
Richardson placed 1st to collect the ABI Insurance National Road Trophy in a time of 2:38.40 ahead of his teammate, the island’s number one ranked cyclist, Robert Marsh who was 2nd in a time of 2:38.42.Last year’s 2nd place national, Ken Jackson stayed strong to place 3rd on the podium in a time of 2:38.43. Omari King was 4th in the sprint ahead of the race favorite and OECS Champion, Jyme Bridges who cruise across the line 5th after a day’s worth of riding.
The B-class winners were greeted by the Minster of Sports, Hon. Winston Williams with Timothy Thomas on the top of the podium to win the 55 mile B-class. Timothy Thomas completed the grueling course in a time of 2:44.03 ahead of Antigua’s only Junior rider, Abevia McDonald, the 18 year old rider placed 2nd in a time of 2:50.04. Wayne Henry was 3rd clocking a time of 3:00.13.
Lindsay Duffy won the female class ahead of Dorothy Graham on the 33 mile course. The 2 females who described the course as an “extremely grueling course” manage to complete the race with Lindsay Duffy winning the event. Duffy won the Top Ranking National Cycling championships in a time of 2:19.55 and of a dedicated Dorothy Graham who captured the 2nd and final female spot in a time of 2:21.44.
The award ceremony took place immediately after the race with Cosmos Richardson collecting the race top prizes with includes the ABI Insurance National Trophy, the Top Ranking Championships trophy and cash prize, a cell phone complements LIME, gift vouchers from Subway and a gift complements Heritage Sports.
Top Ranking was the title sponsor, and contributions came from others including platinum sponsor ABI Insurance, Lucozade, Top Rank Inn Guest House, LIME, Subway and Heritage Sports.
Meanwhile, the cyclists will have a go at it again as the Association will host the 25 mile race on Sunday 27th June, starting at 9:30 am on the top of Friars Hill. The riders will complete the loop which will start on Friars Hill, unto Longfords road, left unto Blue Waters main road, Marble Hill, left unto the road along side Oil Refinery back unto to Friars hill road to Climb Friars hill 10 times. The island top riders are expecting to participate including 2010 National Champion, Cosmos Richardson and OECS Champion, Jyme Bridges.
