2013 NATIONAL ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS A SUCCESS
Wednesday 5th June 2013

Commenting on the 2013 National Athletic Championships which was held at YASCO on Sunday June 2nd, 2013, President of the A.B.A.A. Dr. Rodney Williams said that many of the events were very keenly contested and a high standard was achieved in the Sport at the local level. The National Championship saw the participation of a number of impressive local, regional and international athletes being supported by a large number of spectators gathered at the track until late into the evening.

Dr. Williams said he was particularly impressed with the performance of Miguel Francis and Samantha Edwards. Miguel Francis completed the Men’s 200 metre race in his personal best of 20.6 seconds and created a new record for the Track and Field Championships and the National Juniors as well. Samantha Edwards produced the fastest 400M Women’s finish in 52.67 seconds in any of the national championships to date.

The President stated that the A.B.A.A. will continue to work feverishly to develop the sport of Track and Field in Antigua and Barbuda by increasing the number of officials in the Sport, the number of field events and expanding the talent identification process so that more athletes and compete and perform at the highest levels.
