WINSTON WILLIAMS JR. SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCEDTuesday 28th August 2012
The recipients of the Winston Williams Jr. Scholarship Awards were presented to the public on the Good Morning Antigua/Barbuda Show on ABS TV during its broadcast on Monday August 20, 2012.
The five(5) awardees all hailed from the Rural South Community and will be pursuing courses of study at the Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute (ABHTI). The scholarships, which were advertised via various media were awarded as follows:
- Tuition Scholarship – September 2012 – July 2014 – Ms.Christiana, Janicia Watkins - Associate Degree,Culinary Arts.
- Tuition Scholarship – September 2012 – July 2014 – Mr. Lesroy, Eugiene Byers- Associate Degree,Resorts Management .
- Tuition Scholarship – September 2012 – July 2014 – Mr. Brian, James Peter - Associate Degree,Resorts Management .
- Tuition Scholarship – September 2012 – July 2014 – Ms.Jenique, Jenisa Gonsalves-Barriero. - Associate Degree,Resorts Management
- Tuition Scholarship – September 2012 – July 2014 – Mr. Okeefe Akeem Edwin -.Associates Degree, Reception and Sales.
Applicants for the scholarships were required to submit a completed application form to include an essay and evidence of their qualifications.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the recipients all expressed their delight at being selected for the scholarship award and pledged their commitment to working hard and striving for excellence in their studies. They also applauded the initiative and shared that it would go a long way in assisting them in achieving their educational goals.
Sen. Hon. Winston Williams Jr. after whom the award is named, shared that the initiative is a fulfilment of his commitment to the People of Rural South as outlined in his 2011 Parliamentary Presentation entitled, 'A Real Plan for Real People'. In that presentation, Minister Williams who is the UPP Representative for the St. John's Rural South Constituency made a pledge to introduce initiatives in the area which would focus on human and social development.
Sen. Williams also used the opportunity on the Good Morning Antigua Barbuda Show to share that the recipients of the second component of the Winston Williams Jr. Scholarship Award entitled the 'Adult and Continuing Education Scholarship Awards ' will be announced next week.
This component provides one (1) year tuition scholarships for persons who have been unsuccessful in the CXC, CSEC Examinations, particularly in English Language and Mathematics. This initiative is designed to provide individuals with the extra assistance required for qualification for further studies and employment.
Another initiative which took place last week in the field of education was the annual Rush City Children's Summer Camp designed to provide life skills training for success as a back to school preparatory activity. The event is already fully subscribed.
The Winston Williams Jr. Scholarship Awards is an initiative of the Winston Williams Jr. Charitable Trust which is managed by the Hope Tree Foundation Inc.
