SEAGLANS, VILLA LIONS WIN IN U15, EMPIRE TRIUMPH IN U13
Wednesday 10th August 2011

Young Warriors vs Seaglans

Debutants Stingray City Seaglans caused an upset when they defeated hosts club Young Warriors 1-0 while Villa Lions got their campaign off to a good start when they overcame Young Cubans of all saints 2-0 in the under 15 Youth Cup of the Warriors Cup 2011 tournament on Tuesday at Glanvilles.

A 15-minmute strike by Jarleal Simon was enough for Seaglans to see-off the challenge of the Warriors who could not breach the home side’s defence despite having several chances.

The Vernon Spencer-coached Seaglans were are again well-supported by their partisan fans who included former Glanvilles’ Premier Division players as well as former national netball star, Karen Joseph.

Shavis Bowman put Villa Lions ahead two minutes after half-time before Shavorn Phillip secured the three points for the Sowerby Gomes-coached side in the 37th minute of the 50-minute encounter.

Despite the loss, Young Warriors still led the U15 standings with four points from three matches but Villa Lions, Seaglans and Young Cubans all have three points. However, Villa have only played one game while the other two sides have played a couple of matches.

Jayvaughn Joseph
A double strike by Jayvaughn Joseph helped Empire to beat Villa Lions 2-1 in the U13 age-group at the AGS Field on Tuesday.

Joseph scored both goals in the each half and in between Kwame Kirby had equalized for Villa during the second period of the 30-minute affair.

Empire now has six points from two matches, while Villa remains on three from the same number of games.
