Secondary schools in Antigua/Barbuda are putting their final touches to their teams’ preparation, this week, for the staging of the Coca Cola Inter-schools’ Track & Field Championships, March 12 & 13 at YASCO.
This year’s Inter-schools Athletics Meet is expected to be the biggest schools’ event, outside the National Independence Youth Rally, and athletic officials will be having their work cut out for
them in trying to improve on last year’s Meet.
The air is tense with anticipation of what is to come from some of the top competing schools, including Male & Female Champions, Princess Margaret School, contenders, St. Joseph’s Academy and Christ the King High School. Also expected to be in contention are the Ottos Comprehensive, Clarehall Secondary, Antigua Grammar and the Antigua Girls High School.
Schools will not only be going all out to claim pride and bragging rights, but the individual top athletes are looking forward to qualify for this year’s Carifta Games, now scheduled for Jamaica during the Easter weekend.
Meanwhile, a technical meeting is called for Monday, March 7th at the Antigua Recreation Grounds at 3:00 P.M. Officials are expected to rule on some aspects of the Field Events, which have been an area of concern over the years.
In order to alleviate the late ending of the two day meet, Interschools officials have slated the heats in the 100M and 400M to berun on Tuesday, March 8, starting at 3:00P.M. at YASCO.
