A VOICE FOR KEVORN
Article from the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic in Brooklyn, New York.

When one thinks about the Caribbean, you think of a paradise island, beautiful beaches, early sunrises and breathtaking sunsets. You may even envision and record your own holiday or vacation marked with laughter, dancing, eating and talking up a storm.

This is not the case for every islander. Outside of the comforts of the all-inclusive hotels and gated communities are villages where within, one human spirit has no voice to speak, but still manages to embody courage, zeal and vigor for life.

We recently learned about Kevorn from Her Excellency, Sandra Scotland Williams, who is devoted to helping children with special needs in Antigua and Barbuda as the emerging leader of the Halo Foundation.

Kevorn is a 22 year old young man with so much intelligence, a wonderful nature and a beautiful character but does not have the tools to speak. Without the nurturing of parents, has spent his entire life at the Children's Hospital based in Antigua. Although abandoned there, Kevorn has developed and shared so much compassion towards the 11 other full-time and 7 day-time children as a "junior helper." Kevorn's ability to be charitable despite his conditions should be a lesson to us all; you see, in addition to having no voice, Kevorn has Cerebral Palsy. It's palpable that with his limited mobility, that it has not crippled Kevorn's great, big heart.

Despite his physical realities, Kevorn has an incredible sense of humor. It has become increasingly apparent to the official's at the Amazing Grace Foundation, that a boy, now a man, with such an incredible approach to life should be able to share and communicate it with the world. However without a voice box, we will never have an opportunity to hear from him; Kevorn will never be able to speak. We take it for granted that we have the ability to speak. And in some cases, we may even waste our gifts expressing in a loveless manner.

This fund request is to give A Voice for Kevorn.

Galatians 6:2 teaches us that we should carry each other's burdens. By doing so, we carry out the law of Christ. Here is an opportunity to DO something, without your words, but through action. Your funding will enable Kevorn to express his voice.

Imagine your world without being able to utter a word. Kevorn could be your brother plagued with a physical characteristic of not being able to talk, just grunt. Life in the Caribbean is no paradise for Kevorn, but somehow he has found a way to still smile.

One of the officers of the ward where Kevorn lives has located a voice box which will equip Kevorn to put together sentences. The box will speak for him. Can you reflect on the idea of providing freedom for a human spirit to have a voice enabling him to share so much with us? Apart from having a voice it will also help Kevorn with his reading and spelling.

I have not personally met Kevorn, but the voice of my heart is speaking to me. The DynaVox T10 Kit (voice box) for Kevorn is possible for only $ 6,500 US dollars. I am asking that the blessed voices that take the time to read about Kevorn's story- honor this request-by doing something. Donate to transform Kevorn's life.
Thank you for considering this request. No donation is too large or small. All donations will be recognized.

Please share Kevorn's story so he can live to tell it.
