THE ANTIGUA DOG SHOW TOUR
Thursday 7th February 2013

The Antigua Dog Show takes place Sunday February 24th at the St. Paul’s Rectory Grounds.  It is sponsored by Hutchinson’s Pedigree dog food and the show has become an advocacy for the better treatment of dogs and all of Antigua’s animals.  Last week these two parties got together to do the Antigua Dog Show School Tour.  The tour visits schools and talks to children about caring for dogs.  Antigua Dog Show spokesperson Joy Farrell said, “there is a lot of misinformation about dogs,  the idea was to start a conversation with young people about dogs and how to care for them.  It was very disheartening to hear from the kids themselves about dog fights”.

Hutchinson’s Sales and Marketing Manager, Bernadette David, provided prizes for the children.  She said “we wanted to make it as interactive and as exciting as possible for them, but we also wanted them to understand that owning a pet is a responsibility for the life of the pet and one they should take very seriously”.

Five schools on the island’s South side, St Mary’s School at Jennings, Golden Grove School, Old Road Primary, Urlings Primary and Bolans Primary have been part of the tour.  Mrs Jocelyn Henry, Principal of Urlings Primary School said she was happy to have them talk to her children about caring for dogs.  The children learned something and had a lot of fun in the process.”

Any schools that would like to be a part of this programme should contact Joy Farrell at 561-5881 or email joyfarrellnyc@hotmail.com
