SANDALS FOUNDATION HANDS OVER LUNCH SHED TO WILLIKIES PRIMARY Tuesday 22nd January 2013
WILLIKIES, ANTIGUA (January 22, 2013) – The students of Willikies Primary School now have a brand new eating facility after the Sandals Foundation handed over the lunch shed that was built for them in an official ceremony on Thursday, January 17.
Conceptualized by former principal, Jocelyn Hampson the lunch shed sports several brand new benches that were donated by contractor, Taj Rae.
“We are thrilled that what started three years ago in an attempt to have a meaningful impact in the community has blossomed into a love affair with the students, the teachers and the school,” said an excited Courtney Miller, general manager of Grand Pineapple Beach Resorts.
Miller spoke on behalf of the Sandals Foundation – the philanthropic arm of Sandals, Beaches and Grand Pineapple Beach resorts.
Current principal, Denmore Roberts echoed Miller’s sentiments and urged students to take care of their new eating area, which he plans to use for a wide range of activities including as a space for teaching and performances. Since its inception in March of 2009, the Sandals Foundation has had a very special relationship with Willikies Primary School. They have donated picnic tables and sports gear, painted the kindergarten wing, restocked the school library with more than 300 books and hosted an annual Holiday Toy Drive.
Minister of State Winston Williams was on hand for the festivities and he applauded the Sandals Foundation for demonstrating their commitment to community development and education at a critical time for the nation of Antigua and Barbuda.
