SANDALS THRILLED WITH SPONSORSHIP OF SIR VIV’S GOLF TOURNAMENT

General Manager Gerald Christ of Sandals Grande Antigua Resort and Spa has given a nod of approval with last week’s Golf tournament that celebrated national hero Sir Vivian Richards’ 60th birthday. 

“We are excited to have sponsored a fantastic community event that brought cricket legends and fans together in a very meaningful way and we are proud to be affiliated with Breast Friends because it is an organization that has been pro-active in the fight against breast cancer in Antigua and Barbuda,” says Christ. Event participants’ sported pink golf shirts bearing the signature of the nation’s only living hero.
 
Christ also commended the government of Antigua for recognizing the legacy of SirViv Richards who in his view is not only an Antiguan Hero but a West Indian Champion. He notes that Sir Viv Richards has served the people of the Caribbean with distinction over the years and believes that it’s an era in the region that will not be repeated.

“What Viv Richards has done for the psychological and social consciousness of the Caribbean man and woman is immeasurable. His legacy will live on for many generations to come and Sandals is really pleased to be part of his 60th birthday celebrations,” Christ outlines.  

The tournament attracted 20 teams of four, one comprising of Sir Garfield Sobers, Sir Richard Hadlee, Sir Ian Botham and the man of the hour, Sir Vivian Richards.

The legendary Brian Lara, Michael Holding, Wes hall, Andy Roberts, Joel Garner and Sir Everton Weekes were also on hand. Organizer Zoral Barthley began the event with a luncheon and ended the festivities with an awards ceremony and barbeque. 

More than 200 people were in attendance to commemorate the ‘Master Blaster’s diamond jubilee.
