GRAND PINEAPPLE SALUTES SANDALS CORPORATE UNIVERSITY GRADUATES
Friday 1st February 2013

Twenty six team members at Grand Pineapple Beach Resort were the first to receive their Sandals Corporate University (SCU) Certificates at a graduation ceremony held last Thursday. Launched in March of 2012, the SCU formalizes the staff training and development process and encourages lifelong learning.

Through partnerships with internationally recognized universities such as Canadian based Ryerson University, the SCU’s programs place staff on a learning pathway that can ultimately lead to masters and doctoral degrees.

Training & Development Manager, Joyce Andrew said that it was a proud day for the team members and the property as a Centre of Excellence. “Every team member’s participation in the programs and courses offered by SCU is the realization of the University’s vision and mission, which emphasizes that no team member will be left behind,” commented an ecstactic Andrew.

In his remarks, Grand Pineapple’s General Manager Courtney Miller gave credit to his team members for embracing SCU.“We are thrilled that team members are seizing the opportunity to attend class while at work and we are well aware that this is a monumental achievement,” said Miller.

The featured speaker of the event was Mrs. Cynthia Simon, Manager of Tourism Education, Training and Awareness in the Ministry of Tourism.1 She applauded and recognized the efforts of the Sandals Corporate University and noted that its investment in education, training and development is invaluable. She also encouraged team members to embrace change and  challenge themselves to be life-long learners.

At the same event, five Watersports team members received their certificates as Waterfront Life Guards and 14 trainees from the Hospitality Training Programme were awarded certificates.  Opportunities for training and development under SCU are available to all team members at Grand Pineapple Beach Resort and Sandals Grande Antigua Resort & Spa.
