LORD’S TAVERNERS TOUR RAISED US$11,320

Legendary Knights the celebrity charity dinner and auction held on October 13 by the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Sir Vivian Richards and the Lord’s Taverners, as part of the Lord’s Taverners 65th Anniversary tour raised US$11,320.

The funds raised were split equally between Sir Vivian Richards’ charity of choice, the St. John’s Anglican Cathedral  for continuation of restoration work, on the cathedral, and the Friends of the Care Project, Sugar Ridge’s charity of choice.  Sugar Ridge, was the exclusive hotel partner for the touring Lord’s Taverners.

YIDA who provided the grand prize in the auction, of a US$50,000 holiday package for two, to the YIDA Monarch Golf and Ski resort estate in Japan, has agreed to match the funds raised at the dinner, with each charity set to benefit from the additional contribution.  The YIDA prize while not auctioned off at the event, received considerable interest, and bidding on the prize is ongoing.

Donation presentations to the charities were held today at the St. John’s Anglican Cathedral and Sugar Ridge. Presentations were made to the Dean, The Very Reverend Rudolph Smithen and Mr. Grantley Samuels - Treasurer to the Vestry at the St. John’s Anglican Cathedral.  A presentation was also made to Jo Ann Reddick, board member of Friends of the Care Project at Sugar Ridge. Fundraising for the Lord’s Taverners; Michael Gatting OBE and other members of the Lord’s Taverners;  Sir Vivian Richards; Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Industry, Sports, Culture & National Festivals, Senator the Honourable Colin James; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Paula Frederick-Hunte and CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Colin C. James.
