PLANTING ON EARTH DAY
Friday 27th April 2012

One of the items on the 2012 Green Globe Certification Action Plan at Sugar Ridge was to start a Hotel Garden to include Vegetable, Herbs and Fruits. It was decided to plant the items in stages, with Herbs being the easiest thing to grow and with most of us on the GT having herb patch’s at home, we are confident that we all have green thumbs.

In celebration of Earth Day, 2012   we decide that it would be a perfect time to prepare the beds and begin planting. So on Monday 23rd April at 7.30am members of the GT headed up to the Nursery donned in Sugar Ridge “Clean and Green” T Shirt” Gloves and Hats to tackle to the task at hand.

Along with other staff members Marvis Brade, Head Chef who is normally knee deep in the kitchens or huddled in front of his computer, Ava Mason Hotel Administrator who spends her days behind her desk in heels, and Cassius Farrell from Grounds Department spent the morning preparing beds and planting various herbs. In the ground so far we have Tarragon, Mint, Basil and Hot Peppers.

Having the Gardens up and running will assist in the thrust towards  a sustainable level of operations  and having staff take part in the planting should gave us all some sense of ownership and assist with improving departmental relationships.
