The Antigua & Barbuda International Literary Festival, which began in 2006, is an annual 3-day celebration of literary arts, with workshops, author readings, book signings and special events in a beautiful tropical setting. The festival is usually held in November each year.
To date around 100 authors and publishing professionals have participated. The goal of the organisers is to include noted writers in a broad range of genres from poetry, photography and non-fiction to performance arts and drama. Among the overseas authors who have attended in previous years are author/screenwriter Antwone Fisher (US), novelist Elizabeth Nunez (Trinidad), poet Grace Nichols (Guyana), children’s author John Agard (Guyana), poet and novelist Lorna Goodison (Jamaica), novelist Bernice McFadden (US), and novelist Zee Edgell (Belize). Homegrown and non the less impressive talent who have participated from Antigua and Barbuda include Joanne Hillhouse and Marie Elena-John.
