(New York, NY) In observance of World Tourism Day, under the theme "Tourism Linking Cultures," Antigua and Barbuda partnered with Riverside Theatre, a legendary Harlem landmark, renowned for cultural performing arts.
On Monday evening, Antigua and Barbuda was promoted at the 2nd Annual Riverside Theatre Gala “From Legacy to Promise.” The event paid Tribute to renowned actress Phylicia Rashād who played the role of “the mother” in the Cosby Show and dubbed "the mother" of the African American community,and Jazz Great, Roy Haynes. The event was hosted by WABC-TV correspondent Kemberly Richardson and special guest, the Honorable Bill Cosby and both artists were recognized for their longstanding contributions to the arts.
US Director, Derede Samuel-Whitlock, presented actors Phylicia Rashād and Bill Cosby with copies of a “Little Bit of Paradise.” She also invited the actors to visit the destination and to participate in the first Antigua and Barbuda Film Festival in November where they could make a significant contribution in the cultivation of local talent.

“Riverside Theatre has been an incubator for emerging artists and has brought a vibrant array of cultural performances and fine arts to the surrounding community. Over the past 50 years, Riverside Theatre has hosted a variety of productions from dance and original performances to film festivals.
The US Tourism Team worked with Events Consultant, Carolyn Punter of Mango Tree Productions, to secure significant destination exposure including a live auction of a trip to St. James’ Club and networking opportunities with business leaders, elected officials and artists. More than 400 attendees with a strong cultural interest attended this event and had an opportunity to learn more about the unique attractions that Antigua and Barbuda has to offer.
