THE BIG BOYS FIGHT IT OUT
The challenge is yearly at the end of January when yachts in excess of 80 feet are invited to participate in this exciting and friendly event. The beautiful setting of Nelson's Dockyard is the perfect place to center the social activities and moor up all the yachts together and it provides the perfect environment for enjoying the Caribbean hospitality and the famous Superyacht Challenge parties.
For the racing the 'Bucket Rating' system (which is used at the popular St Barth's Bucket and Newport Bucket events) ensures close and exciting racing, and with ideal trade wind conditions and crystal blue Caribbean water what could be a better.
As Paul Deeth, Chairman of ACYM (Antigua Charter Meeting) comments:
“I am delighted that we will have a Superyacht Cup event in Antigua... The Superyacht Cup in Palma is always a fantastic way to end the Mediterranean season and now we have the same event in Antigua to start the Caribbean season – we look forward to a great event”
The SYCA Committee headed by Paul Deeth and Stan Pearson will be hosting the three days of spectacular racing with ratings and start times being determined by the familiar Bucket Rule administered by Jim Teeters. The regatta will be sailed under the Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012 (RRS) - modified and using the Low Point Scoring System.
From a Start/Finish line off the entrance to English Harbour, the course marks for the three 12 - 30 mile (approx) Pursuit Races will be set daily according to the prevailing conditions off the south coast of Antigua.
