LAUNCH OF THE BARBUDA MOONS PROGRAM
Tuesday 17th May 2011

Residents in Barbuda witnessed the launch of the Barbuda Moons Romance Package at the historic Martello Tower last Thursday.  With no residency required for visitors who wish to get married,  Barbuda Moons is expected to bolster Antigua and Barbuda's image as a premier destination for Romance.

Two couples were honored at the site of this 17th century fortress that will become a public venue for weddings and other celebrations of commitment. Newlyweds,Tracee Beazer and Paulo Barrett, were the first couple to sample the Barbuda Moons Package. The Barbudan Broadway actress and her husband arrived at Martello Tower via helicopter to experience a "Day moon," a day trip featuring authentic Barbudan experiences. Taken before, during or after the honeymoon, Day moons are designed to help couples relax, unwind and keep the romance alive.

The couple received the "royal treatment" and were greeted by a Barbudan hospitality team led by parliamentary representative, Hon. Trevor Walker, a former hotel executive. Councilwoman Mrs. Dorcas Beazer Williams and Chairman of the Barbuda Council, Mr. Kelvin Punter were also part of the contingent.

A local Barbudan couple, Cohen and Claudina Desuza who are celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary sampled the Full moon package, a vow renewal ritual, designed for couples celebrating milestone anniversaries.

In presenting the Package, Chair of the Tourism Committee, Councilwoman Mrs Dorcas Beazer Williams indicated “  Martello Tower is just the beginning of the restoration drive that we have planned for Barbuda. We hope that this landmark will symbolize the restoration of love and commitment that the Barbuda Moons will offer to couples who visit our shores."

Hon Trevor Walker endorsed Tracee Beazer, an accomplished actress of Barbudan descent as the "face" of this authentic Barbudan promotion.  Walker stated  "The destination has already been established as a good venue for weddings and honeymoons, the time has come for Barbuda to put its own stamp on this important niche. By developing more options in Barbuda for couples who visit Antigua, will only lead to stronger and more diverse tourism product."
The couples experienced the best in Barbudan cuisine, prepared by local chefs. A sampling of the spiny lobster, venison, red snapper with local vegetables, was paired with Jah Moons, a locally made wine.

As part of a photo shoot to  promote the The Barbuda Moons , Tracee ventured to the nearby beach to "Trash the Dress," a growing post nuptial trend designed to create art and demonstrate finality and commitment.  Still clad in her wedding attire, the bride posed "waist deep" highlighting the various shades of the blue Barbudan beaches.  The "trashed" gown will be utilized in future promotions and was presented to Tourism Committee of the Barbuda Council .

The Barbuda Moons Romance Package offers a range of romantic adventures in idyllic landmark settings throughout Barbuda. Featuring Day moons, Baby moons, After moons, Multi moons or Full moons, couples can customize  itineraries to suit their taste and budget.  They can select air or sea transfers from Antigua, accommodations, tours, meals and entertainment, for day trips or longer stays.
