CUSHION CLUB

Are You Ready for the challenge? Summertime is here and the Cushion Club, a children's reading club in Antigua and Barbuda has a challenge for young readers aged 5 to 15. Pick any number of books from our ‘Summer Reading Challenge’ recommended reading list, and just read. The person or persons who can prove they’ve read the most books between now and the end of summer wins a prize or prizes.

To qualify you have to have picked and read from the list at least one local book, one Caribbean book, and one international book minimum but don’t stop there, the prize goes to he or she who reads the most.

How do you prove it? Submit a very short paragraph, keep it very short telling us who was your favourite character or something you liked about each book and why. Email your list and your super short reviews to cushionclub@yahoo.com

Please indicate your age and contact information when submitting.  You can find the ‘Summer Reading Challenge’ book list online here, the Wadadli Youth Pen Prize is a ‘Summer Reading Challenge’ partner. This challenge is not meant to take young people away from climbing trees, going to the beach, movie limes, Carnival-ing, traveling, or other favourite summer activities but to encourage them to incorporate reading for fun, for discovery, and adventure into their play.

We’d be very surprised if any one got through the entire list, but we like being surprised; so hit up your bookstores, libraries, home, friends, and read as much as you choose, then let us know what you’ve read. The Cushion Club owns some of the listed books and is willing to make loans of said books to responsible participants.

For inbox management don’t send per book read, rather send complete list and mini-reviews at the end of August 2015. We will reward the winner or winners during September hopefully, once we’ve double-checked all the lists.
