CALL TO YOUNG ARTISTS - ASW ART COMPETITION
Wednesday 5th March 2014

It is that time of year again! Antigua Sailing Week and LIAT now invites school children age 5 – 18 years old, attending school in Antigua & Barbuda, to enter its Annual Art Competition. The competition will run from Monday 3rd March 2014 - 11th April 2014.

“The competition is not only a unique way for the nation’s children to express their artistic gifts, but also a way to participate in Antigua’s Sailing Week activities,” Event Coordinator, Thalia Burton said. She added, “There are also fabulous prizes to be won.”

This year’s competition is open to all interpretations that capture the spirit of Antigua Sailing Week. The artists are encouraged to use their “The real challenge for the artists is capturing what Antigua Sailing Week means to them and making it into an original work of art,” Burton said.

All pieces submitted will be judged on originality and the overall artistic quality of the work. All art mediums will be considered: paintings, drawings, oil, acrylic and ink—to name a few.

Although we encourage the students to be creative, we ask that media that can transfer, be easily wiped off or soil other entries be limited. This would include the use of glitter, chalk and sand.

Prizes are awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in three age categories (Lower Junior 5-9, Upper Junior 10-14 and Senior 15-18). All entries should be delivered to the Antigua Hotels & Tourist Association before the deadline Friday, April 11th, 2014.

Entry form and rules are available for download on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/ASWSchoolsArt. Contact Thalia at telephone 462 3703 for further details.
