CARLISLE BAY TO REOPEN WITH NEW GENERAL MANAGERFriday 17th October 2014
When luxury resort, Carlisle Bay opens back up its doors to guests and the full complement of workers on Saturday, a new face will be at the helm to welcome them.
Canadian-born Lyle Pauls has been appointed General Manager for the world renowned hotel located on the southern side of the island.
Speaking on his appointment, Pauls says “He is looking forward to empowering his team and giving guests exactly what they want, while ensuring the tourism product remains up to par.” He adds, “Since arriving at Carlisle Bay, we have embarked on a training programme for our team members. The hotel has also received a facelift which we are excited to showcase to both our local and overseas guests.”
With Carlisle Bay located in the quaint village of Old Road with many close-knit families, the new head also speaks of his plans for the community.
“I truly believe in giving back and though Carlisle Bay is home to many residents in terms of work, we want to create a stronger bond with the people here. We intend to give more support to the farmers, fisher folk and other vendors in the surrounding communities, as well as the schools, since educating our young people will only help to advance this great nation.”
Pauls’ journey to becoming general manager is quite interesting. “Since I was a child, I dreamt of becoming a famous chef. After finishing culinary school, I started with a great hotel in Banff, Canada. The Chef at that time told me that I would never become a great Chef and that I should go back to school and become a hotel manager. I did and am thankful for his tough and honest words. I am also thankful that I can make a béarnaise sauce from scratch.”
The new GM has found joy outside of Carlisle Bay and has already fallen in love with Antigua. “The warmth and beauty of Antigua is only surpassed by its people.”
Asked what sets Carlisle Bay apart from others, Pauls proudly states “Take Miami cool and mix it with Caribbean charm. Our style is understated, with clean tapestries flowing around lush textures. We are a simple and airy design with many experiences from solemn library areas to bars crackling with energy. There is always a sun dappled emotion next to a shaded area of respite. Carlisle Bay can be described in three words – Simple Discreet Luxury!”
Prior to taking up this position, Pauls was General Manager of The Landings in Saint Lucia and has also worked in New Orleans, Chicago and New York. He says he is now ready to make his mark in Antigua.
